Why Hire a Book Coach?
So many people want to write a book, but don’t know how. So they never try. Or they start writing but hit a roadblock and give up. But I believe that with the right support, anyone can write a book. Really! (And you don’t need AI to do it!) You just need someone encouraging and informed in your corner.
As a book coach, I can meet you where you are and help you achieve your goals – whether that’s completing the first draft, rewriting until you’re satisfied, or figuring out the best path to get your book into readers’ hands. I offer one-time consultations, workshops, and monthly packages so you choose what’s best for you and your budget. Some of my clients need help patching a plot hole or advice on how to craft a more satisfying ending. Others need a plan to finish their draft and accountability to stick to it. Some are starting with a dream and an idea. No matter what stage you’re at, if you’re ready to invest in telling your story, a book coach can help you do it!
Why Choose Amy Miller Writing Services?
I know what it’s like to have an unfinished project inside you. For most of my life I’ve dreamed of being a published author. It’s been quite a journey since I drafted my first novel at 19.
I’ve loved reading and writing since I was a kid. I have a BA in English literature from Amherst College, where I analyzed the classics and passed my comprehensive exams with distinction. Since then I’ve revised my own manuscript extensively, and for the past four years have been part of a critique group that gives and receives monthly feedback. I’ve attended writing conferences and taken writing courses, and am an active member of SCBWI (the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators). I’m the kind of person that cringes when I catch 2-3 typos in most books I read, and I’m ready to put that perfectionism to work for you! And for the past two years I’ve been co-writing Team Struggle Run: How to Fall in Love with Running (Even When It’s Hard) which will be published by Flatiron Books, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers, in August 2027, so I know firsthand what it’s like to go through the publishing process with a traditional, Big 5 publisher.
But I’m also approachable, kind, and excited to help improve your manuscript. If you hire me to be your editor, there’s no need to be intimidated. I know firsthand how vulnerable it feels to share your writing with someone else, especially when you’re asking for feedback. I promise to treat you and your book gently while doing all I can to help ensure your future readers will love it.
Book Coaching Services Offered
From one-time advice to an ongoing relationship, there’s lots of ways I can help bring your book into the world. This list is just a start. I’m happy to create a custom package that works for your goals, timeline, and budget.
Query Assistance – $149
You’ve only got one shot to pitch your book to your dream agent. I can help you make sure your submission package is polished and positioned to give you the best chance to catch their attention. I’ll provide feedback on your query letter, first ten pages of the manuscript, and either a one page synopsis or one page worth of answers to common Query Tracker questions, hop on a half hour video call to answer any of your questions, and then review all your materials a second time after you’ve revised them.
**Please note: I cannot guarantee that my assistance will land you an agent or a read request. Publishing is a very subjective business, and agents are flooded with submissions. But I can save you from common querying mistakes and help you articulate what makes your book intriguing and marketable.**
Hourly Consultations – $99
Pick my brain about publishing, writing goals, or your current work in progress for sixty minutes. If you’re dealing with a craft issue, I’m happy to read up to ten pages before our call. Common topics I often consult on include self versus traditional publishing and how to go from an idea to a final draft if you’ve never written before.
Monthly Support – Price Varies
If you’d like support and accountability throughout your writing, editing, or publishing journey, we can put together a three, six, or twelve month plan or an ongoing retainer that includes video chats, emailed check ins, and feedback on your work. Pricing depends on the frequency and type and amount of support needed.
Half or Full Day Workshops – Price Varies
Need help plotting out your story, solving a worldbuilding issue, or figuring out how to revise your manuscript? I’ll create a custom workshop and we’ll spend three or six hours working together so you make significant progress and leave with a plan to complete your work.
What is My AI Policy?
As a writer myself, I have serious ethical concerns about the use of generative AI in any creative endeavors, although I know it can be useful for research and administrative tasks. I will NEVER feed your work into an AI tool (ask me why you shouldn’t either, by the way!) or use AI in any of my communications or feedback.
If this sounds good to you, lets connect!
